Overview of Plasma in Welding Industry by Gavin Bone

Inventions make the work easier plasma cutter the invention in welding equipment made the welding process easier. Plasma cutting is a process that is used to cut metals, steels and different metals. It is used to cut different metals of different thickness with accuracy. It uses a plasma torch which generates plasma from its nozzle.

What is plasma?
Plasma is a gas in which certain particles are ionized and it has some career which has some electric charge and makes it to conduct electrically. Plasma doesn't have definite shapes or volumes and it was invented by sir William crooks in 1879. There are two types of plasma such as terrestrial and cosmic plasmas. The common example for plasma is lightning.

How do the plasma cutter works?
It works by sending an electric arc through the gas; generally inert gases are passed through. It has a nozzle in which the gas passes through and it cuts the molten metal. A pilot arc is used to ionize the gas and generate the plasma and the torch tip creates a spark and uses high frequency starting circuit to initiate an arc. The nozzles and the electrodes are always in contact and the nozzle is blown out when the gas begins to flow. Hand held torches are used to cut the metal in different sizes.

Plasma gouging the dual role of plasma cutters:
It is another use of plasma cutters and has similar characteristics that of plasma cutting and it uses power source, gas, torch and consumables. Many were unknown of this process and it is used to weld and also remove the welded parts. It has comparable speed, torch angle and gas pressure. It removes crack, porosity and lack of fusion in metals and used in many industrial applications.

Types and techniques of gouging:
The different types of gouging are oxyfuel, mechanical, carbon arc and plasma arc gouging. Out of four gouging processes plasma arc gouging is mostly used because they have low metal rates compared to other gouging process and also it is a noise and smoke free process. The three different gouging techniques followed are straight, side and weaving gouge. Welding operators may use different gouging techniques to achieve different sizes and shapes.

Gouging applications:
Gouging process is widely used in many industrial applications such as heavy equipment repairs, manufacturing of truck tank and steel structures. It de-assembles the welded structure and removes excess materials from castings. Plasma gouging is four times better than carbon arc gouging method.

Plasma spraying:
Plasma spraying is used in coating of materials and they provide temperature and corrosion free materials. Usually liquids or powder is sprayed over the jet and these deposits form as coatings or substrates. It has some significant properties which differ from other materials.

Types of power plasma series:
The different types of power plasma series available are super cut 40 and 50, power plasma 50,60,70,80,100. Each power series has some distinguish features and uses. For example, super cut 40 is used by hobbyist and power plasma 100 is used for industrial and commercial applications.

This article give you information and new knowledge about new discoveries in the field of industry are inventions that make the job of cutting metal become more efficient, the tool that the plasma cutter. In this article also describes the sense of a plasma with the inventor of the plasma is the first time, but not only the nucleus only in this article also describes the workings of the plasma cutter, applications in the industry, as well as how to type plasma spraying. With the existence of a new innovation in these tools, so that it can eliminate cracks on welding, porosity and lack of fusion in metal and is used in many industrial applications. So it is very helpful in the job industry.
